Muggles, wizards and witches

The entire world is in danger. Learn about population to analyze the characteristics of the people you need to protect from Voldemort.

Dear students, the Ministry of Magic is having some problems to elaborate a plan to protect the population from Voldemort: they have no information about muggles. I know your parents are muggles, so perhaps you can help the Ministry.

Will you study the population in Spain and UK to show us everything we need to know about them?

TASK 1:

Define birth rate, death rate and natural growth.
Take notes in your notebook about:

- Natural growth in Spain and United Kingdom in 2015. You can calculate it using birth and death rates.

TASK 2:

Define migration and its types: immigration and emigration.

- Immigration and emigration in United Kingdom in 2015. You can check the data here
- Net migration in Spain and United Kingdom in 2015. You can calculate it using immigration and emigration data.

TASK 3:

Define life expectancy and population density.
Take notes in your notebook about:
- Life expectancy in Spain and UK (men and women). You can check the data here.
- Population in Spain and United Kingdom. You can check the data here.
- Surface in km2 of Spain and United Kingdom.
- Population density in Spain and United Kingdom. You can calculate it using population and the surface in km2 of both countries.
Explain the differences between active population and inactive population.

TASK 4: Elaborate a report for the Ministry of Magic including all the information you have discovered about population in Spain and United Kingdom. The report must have:

An introduction explaining what the report is about and what you have done.
Definitions of important concepts: birth rate, death rate, natural growth, immigration, emigration, net migration, population density and life expectancy.
A chart including all the data in Spain and UK in the year 2015:
- Birth rates
- Death rates
- Natural growth
- Immigration
- Emigration
- Net Migration
- Population
- Population Density
- Life expectancy for men and women
Conclusions explaining what you have learnt while doing the tasks.
